Reading Week

Arghhhh, reading week has started as students scramble for their books and attempt to cram back into their heads the astronomical amount of knowledge they have been asked to accumulate over the semester... Here we see George'09, an honors student (a rare specimen), studying economics.

Last Pub Nite and studying in McCabe

Study in McCabe or go to Pub Nite? That is the dilemma many students are faced with on a Thursday night. George'09, Majandra'12 and I avoided it by dashing out of the library five minutes before midnight (and the end of Pub Nite) to get some last minute excitement. Hats off to Clarissa'12 who stayed behind (although we all know she was playing Tetris).

Earlier in the afternoon, Majandra'12 reads The Phoenix, the college newspaper, poised on one of the McCabe "honors" (because located in between honors bookshelves) tables.

By the way, extra points to whoever guesses what I was reading!

THE BIG CHAIR IS BACK!

YES! After nearly a year, the big chair is back! It is to everyone's surprise that the big chair was found, imperiously standing in front of its kneeling miniature peers on Parrish Beach one Wednesday morning. Kate'09 and Sven'09 test it out for the first time.

EXCLUSIVE: WSRN Headquarters!

I am going to be the World Music Director next semester, which means that I have exclusive access to the headquarters on Parrish 5th, amongst other things! I can also use the budget to refurnish the tiny "European" music section! The headquarters are pretty messy, but then again, it's rock'n roll.

Summer Time

Summer is here! The heat is steadily increasing. To celebrate, unsuspecting Abhay'09 and Clarissa'12 spread themselves on a temporarily white and immaculate sheet while Majandra'12 immortalizes them through her lens. Daniel'10 choses to focus on smaller things, smaller things that crawl onto the Cold War seminar papers that I am supposed to be reviewing.

La McCage aux Livres (The McCage of Books)

McCage, that is the affectionate name with which students refer to McCabe, the humanities and social sciences library. There is a notebook at the desk at McCage where you can voice your deepest thoughts and opinions, as well as request dvds, books or simply ask questions (as illustrated above, library staff can contribute).

Shown underneath is a beautiful tribute to Lizah'12 from Kenya who works at McCabe.

The contestants of Mr. Swarthmore align themselves on stage. "Mr. Nothing", Grant'09, won a landslide victory over the 4 runner ups, Mr. International, Mr. Lacrosse, Mr. SASS (Swarthmore African American Student Society) and Mr. Rugby.

The activities fair on Parrish Walk for Ride the Tide.

Parrish Beach gets crowded as Swatties and Specs enjoy the beautiful weather. The tents were put up by Earthlust, the campus environmental group, in order to sleep outdoors with specs.

For more Student Groups check out http://www.swarthmore.edu/x8595.xml. Try and spot me on the web!
